In 1993 the Trustees and many supporters were thrilled when a dedicated Haematological Unit was built and opened on Ward 7 at BRI by the Duchess of Kent.  The Annette Fox Haematology Unit offered patients privacy and dignity with all en-suite rooms, own TV/video and entertainment systems and modern bright furnishings.  The unit also offered the opportunity for patients to be treated as day cases.  This facility has become so essential that it has outgrown itself twice over.  In 2008 a further £165,000 was spent for refurbishment and to enlarge the clinical space.

The work of the AFLRF now encompasses a wide range of projects, supporting research, promoting training of specialist nurses, employing a welfare rights worker and a sessional aroma therapist, buying equipment and assisting individual patients suffering financial hardship as a result of their illness.
